• How does the Red Swoosh client work?

  When a user clicks on a swooshed link, the Red Swoosh client will start downloading or streaming the content you clicked on by pulling from peers and servers that are close to your PC (from a network perspective). The RS client will pull content from all of these sources at once, pulling little pieces from each of them until it has the entire file. You can pull data “progressively”, from beginning to end, which basically means you can stream video and do downloads in a browser just as you did before.

• Does the client work when I have a NAT or firewall set up? Do I have to do anything special to use the Red Swoosh client?

  Red Swoosh's technology is built to effectively and safely traverse NATs. We have also designed the client to work for users without any configuration on your part. That means you don't have to set-up port-forwarding, turn your Firewall or NAT off, or do anything different than before. There are always unique PC configurations or network setups that come up that we haven't planned for. • What is this TCP connection that I see when I do a netstat on my machine?

  Like most network communications software, the RS client communicates with a centralized directory, what we call the Red Swoosh backend (a.k.a., the Mothership. . J ) to let the network know the state of affairs with your PC's network availability. If downloads are slow, or sources are unavailable, the client can ask for more sources, or alternatively switch to pulling from the server.

• Will you ever deliver content to my PC that I have not asked for?

  Absolutely not. Only content you have asked for will be delivered to your PC. Also included are user sign-ups for content channels. For example, a sports site might offer a sign-up/registration for a daily highlights reel that is pre-delivered to a user's PC once a day. In those cases, users are receiving content they have asked for, and are able to unsubscribe at any time.

• Will uploading overwhelm or saturate my connection?

  Uploads will only happen when the network is highly underutilized, and will generally be unnoticeable in regard to other activities you have going on
